Seattle could experience the second-driest start to October on record. By Sunday, the city had received just 0.08 inches of precipitation, and if another 0.4 inches does not fall by the end of the day, this period will become the second-driest October stretch in weather records. The city currently ranked eighth for dryness, but without rain by Wednesday it would have risen to third. Seattle has already received far less precipitation than Las Vegas, San Diego and Phoenix — especially unusual for a region known for its rainy reputation.
Morning fog and low clouds are expected Tuesday and Wednesday before clearing to reveal sunny skies; temperatures will reach about 18°C, slightly above the seasonal average. A weak front off the coast will likely dissipate, bringing cooler weather Thursday, with temperatures around 14°C, while Friday will be a transition day. Possible rain will arrive Saturday and Sunday with a system moving in from Alaska, but it will bring only about 0.1–0.25 inches of precipitation. The driest October period through the 25th remains 1987, when just 0.05 inches of rain fell.
