Venezuela Reports Increase in Oil Production in Zulia State

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez said Zulia State had set a new record, producing 115,000 barrels of oil in a single day. She made the announcement while reviewing energy projects and agreements between Venezuela and the United States. Rodríguez said developing the sector should strengthen the economy and raise workers’ incomes.

The authorities also plan to expand logistics infrastructure: according to the president, the number of vessels is to increase from 100 to 900. At the same time, they plan to create jobs gradually—first in the food sector, followed by hospitality and industry. Héctor Obregón, head of state oil company PDVSA, said Zulia holds 21.5 billion barrels in oil reserves and is home to more than 24 active production projects.

Venezuela also hopes to begin exporting gas from Zulia next year. To that end, it plans to commission fractionation plants in Ule and Bajo Grande to process associated gas and produce liquefied petroleum gas for domestic use and export. The authorities present the expansion of oil and gas production as part of their drive to revive the economy and strengthen the country’s energy independence.
